Till the moment he realises what happened to Stonny. That was my reading of her character and maybe I read more into it that was on the pages but I guess that's the beauty of reading. Before Capustsan she was self assured and cynical. She is vulnerable she clings to Gruntle in the second half of the book and her sarkyness becomes a defence mechanism. I read Stonnys character as deeply changed after the incident. I also disagree with the way it is portrayed here that we don't see it revisited in the book and Stonny is left out of the story but the 'hero' Gruntle goes in to bigger and better things. The fact that a character we know is caught up in it is fairly congruent with the story. There was probably hundreds of rapes occurring concurrently to this along with a multitude of other horrors. The setting for this rape is the siege of a city as it falls.

It's taken as a plot device to drive Gruntle's story and this trope is often derided. I'm always taken aback by what seems to be to majority view on this storyline on this subreddit.
